-Description
Ingenieur, one of IWC's representative collections, means engineer in German. The first Ingenieur, which was born in 1955, was an improved version of the pilot watch Mark XII (Mark 11) for civilian use.
Equipped with a self-winding movement and a soft-iron inner case, it was characterized by its extremely high resistance to magnetic fields, shocks, and water resistance. Since then, the collection has undergone several model changes and continues to this day, albeit with different designs.
Reference 3521, was introduced in 1993 and was produced until around 2001. It is equipped with a thin automatic movement that is COSC chronometer certified.
While it has a simple design without a crown guard, the flowing lines of the case, lugs, and bracelet give it a very sophisticated look.
Some may look at this watch and think it looks like a Royal Oak. That is because this watch was designed by Gerald Genta.
Gérald Genta was a designer of luxury sports watches such as Patek Philippe's Nautilus and Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak, and had a very significant influence on later watch design.
The Ingenieur SL reference 1832 from 1976 was designed by Genta, and the thin design continued until this reference 3521, which is a very different impression from the Ingenieur watches from the 00's onward, which are in the same collection but have a very different look.
In recent years, vintage Nautilus and Royal Oak watches have become very expensive and out of reach for most people, but the Ingenieur has not attracted much attention because it is not an ultra-luxury manufacturer like those two.
However, the Ingenieur has been attracting a lot of interest because the above-mentioned watches have become too expensive and the designer Gerald Genta has been attracting renewed attention worldwide.
The dial is a white dial with gold indexes, pencil hands, and a luxurious combination. The dial and hands have original tritium luminous paint.
The movement is installed Cal. 887/2 which is based on Jaeger-LeCoultre's Cal.889/2.
Cal.889/2 is the same thin movement used in Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, and Vacheron Constantin Patrimony.
The Ingenieur is protected by a soft iron inner case, so there is no need to worry about magnetization, and you can use it without worrying about the impacts that can occur during everyday use.
