-Description
Vacheron Constantin is a watch brand founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1755. It is considered to be the oldest watch brand in the world that has continued uninterrupted since its inception.
Along with Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet, it is said to be one of the three most luxurious watch brands in the world.
This reference 47022 is a "Chronometre Royal", an automatic dress watch with a calendar manufactured in the 1990s.
The Chronometer Royal originated as a pocket watch that was introduced in 1907, and as the name chronometer suggests, it was a model that pursued accuracy.
The following year, in 1908, the trademark was registered as "Chronomètre Royal" and it was sold primarily in the South American market. It is said that it was given the name "Royal" because it was aimed at wealthy people.
It was later launched as a hand-wound wristwatch in the 1950s, and in the 1960s it was redesigned and marketed as an automatic watch.
Both of these watches passed the chronometer standard and boast the highest class of precision.
However, with the advent of quartz watches, interest in mechanical watches waned, and production of the Chronometer Royal ended in the 1970s.
In 1998, the Chronometer Royal was reintroduced with a new model, the 47022, equipped with the automatic 1126 calibre.
The sharp dagger hands reminiscent of hand-wound models from the 1950s, and the modern, sophisticated case and dial design make this a neo-vintage watch.
The case is made of 18K white gold. The case diameter is 34mm. The bezel is narrow and the dial is large, and the lugs are narrow and shaped, giving the impression that the numbers are larger than they actually are.
The dial is a sandblasted ivory dial. It is a pale ivory and therefore close to white. The indexes are a very unusual design, a combination of bullet-shaped and Roman numerals.
The sharp, dagger-shaped hands, as seen on the Chronometer Royal of the 1950s, are very distinctive.
The installed movement is automatic Cal.1126. A thin movement based on Jaeger-LeCoultre Cal.889, which was also used in the Overseas watches of the same period.
As you can see from the 21C stamp, 21K gold is used for the outer circumference of the rotor. The finishing of each part is superb, making this a very time-consuming and costly movement.
It comes with box, leather case, guarantee paper and chronometer certificate. There is a record that it was sold in a department store in Japan in 1999.
A genuine white gold buckle in the shape of a Maltese cross made of the same material as the case is also included.
